Free school supplies will be given away to Collinsville area needy

Free backpacks and school supplies will be provided on Aug. 1 to low-income Collinsville area families with children in kindergarten through 12th grade.

SchoolBus-no labelFamilies that meet the income requirements noted below should bring parental identification, Social Security numbers, proof of Collinsville Township residency and proof of income. Supplies will be provided according to particular school and class lists. Public and private school students are eligible.

In addition to utility bills, a lease agreement will be accepted as proof of residency. Accepted items for proof that the family qualifies as low income include paycheck stubs, a Social Security Income award letter, proof of food stamps or a medical card.

The Collinsville Back to School Program takes place form 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Collinsville Township Senior Center, 420 E. Main St., Collinsville. Anyone with questions can contact the Township office at 618-344-1290.

$500 per month, per family member can be added to the 30-day income amount to determine eligibility for families with more than eight members.
