The public will soon have access to more than just the agenda for Collinsville School Board meetings.

In a unanimous vote Monday, the board approved a subscription to a service that will allow much of the agenda packet, provided to board members, to be posted on the Unit 10 website (Kahoks.org) along with the agenda. The packets provide details about items discussed during the meetings. The full packets, which may contain sensitive information about Unit 10 students or employees, cannot be made available to the public.

The School Board posts agendas in accordance with the Illinois Open Meetings Act. The move toward providing information from the agenda packets is being made to provide greater transparency.

Other benefits the board expects to realize from its subscription to Boardbooks are increased information security and fewer Freedom of Information Act requests, which will reduce administration time and costs. The subscription costs $2,000 annually and will replace the current use of Dropbox.

The move to Boardbooks is expected to be ready by the December School Board meeting.

In other action Monday, the board approved the creation of a non-funded table tennis club at Collinsville High School. Principal Eric Flohr said a group of students “were just looking for a safe place to play.”

The school’s ping pong tables will be set-up in the gym for the club to use. The group’s sponsor has agreed to work on an unpaid basis.
