Freshmen Lady Kahoks are conference champions

The freshmen Lady Kahoks basketball team knocked off Belleville East Monday to claim the championship of the Southwestern Conference Tournament.

Head Coach Colin Moore said the team was fun to coach. “They truly didn’t care who scored, they just wanted to win,” Moore said.

Four players scored more than 100 points on the year for the team that finished with a 19-1 record.

The same squad was state champions in junior high school last year. The girls, playing for the Collinsville Middle School Trail Blazers, beat West Frankfort 52-41 to win the 2013 Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association large school State Championship.

The team is comprised of Allyson Arban, Lauren Lee, Alynnah O’Leary, Danielle Knutson, Amy Kuehn, Airriana Alexander, Claire Schuessler, Katie Mitchell, Taylor Devine, Addie Moore, Hayliegh Kellison, Savannah Roe and Kassidy Ashmann. They are coached by Colin Moore.
