On August 24, an employee of Dean’s Liquor Store in Uptown Collinsville reported to police that he had witnessed a man dressed in black, sporting a Mohawk-like hairdo and a shark tattoo on his elbow, stand on top of a brick wall at Listermann Park and scribble “Saucy” on a banner flag using a Sharpie marker. The incident happened in early evening.

The same word was written on the front of an ice cooler at Dean’s. Another Dean’s employee posted on social media that the Saucy Vandal had struck more than once at the establishment and the he had seen the “Saucy” tag in various locations in Uptown Collinsville.

Collinsville police officer Mike Bauer located Steven T. Galvez, 27, of the 900 block of W. Clay St., Collinsville behind the library a short time later. When asked why he wrote “Saucy,” Galvez said that he had recently moved back to the area and wanted to put his street name out in the public, police records indicate.

Bauer returned with Galvez to Listermann Park to find that the Saucy Vandal had also tagged a park bench with his street name. The Sharpie marker was confiscated and Galvez booked.

Galvez pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal defacement to property on Sept. 23, sentenced to six months supervision and ordered to pay $300 in fines and court costs.
