Collinsville girl part of third-place team in SWIC business plan competition

Celena Jentsch of Collinsville was part of a team that recently took third place in the 2014 Allsup Academy business plan competition at Southwestern Illinois College.

The team took home $50 each for their idea to start a unique day care service. They competed against six other teams in the contest.

Approximately 35 high school students from throughout the region took part in the weeklong business workshop, sponsored by SWIC and Allsup Inc. Other ideas created by young entrepreneurs included a portable medical simulator for surgical training, portable generators and comprehensive pet care services.

Students also had a chance to study successful business models, visit Allsup Inc. headquarters in Belleville and meet company founder Jim Allsup.

Other members of Jenthsch’s team were Stefan Jones of O’Fallon, Kenny Roberson of East St. Louis and Alexandria Waller of Cahokia
