The Caseyville Police Department will be increasing roving and stationary patrols during the Thanksgiving holiday period.

Police will focus on enforcing seat belt and alcohol violations. The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Sustained Traffic Enforcement Grant Program (STEP) is funding the patrols by Caseyville Police and 200 other law enforcement agencies in the state, police said.

The Caseyville Police Department will conduct a seat belt enforcement zone during the evening hours of Saturday, Nov. 30 at the intersection of Illinois Route 157 and Tucker Drive. In 2011, seat belts saved almost 12,000 lives nationwide. Car seats saved the lives of 260 children under the age of 5, police said.

During the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, nine people were killed and 700 injured in car crashes. Three of the nine deaths involved alcohol.
