The administration at Collinsville High School wants to be a safe place for the freshman student who was at the center of a recent sexual assault investigation.

Staff offered professional resources to the student to help her handle the situation, CHS Principle Eric Flohr said. For privacy reasons, Flohr cannot provide the details of the services offered.

“With all of the rumors swirling around, I want her to know that she is safe here,” Flohr said.

The student was involved in an incident overnight Saturday in Fairmont City that was reported by some media outlets as an alleged sexual assault case. However, the Fairmont City police department released a statement Friday indicating that the female had not made any reports of a sexual attack and that the sex acts were consensual.

As happens in high schools throughout the world, rumors spread about the students involved. Interest in the case spread throughout the Metro East and into St. Louis. The attention could have been harmful to the psyche of a 14-year-old.

CHS staff assisted with the legal investigation, but was more concerned about the safety and welfare of the student. “Her mental stability is our greatest concern in all of this,” Flohr said.
