Collinsville police arrested the person accused of pretending to need help from a 75-year-old woman and then stealing the victim’s purse.

Tiree Fox, 24, of Collinsville, was arrested at 3 p.m. Monday at Center and Clay streets in Collinsville. Fox was wanted on felony theft, felony burglary and two felony forgery charges.

A warrant for Fox was also issued for an Aug. 19 missed court date stemming from a February arrest for felony possession of a controlled substance, a spokesperson for the Madison County State’s Attorney’s office said.

The purse theft occurred on July 27 in Collinsville. Fox, along with a young child, is alleged to have approached the 75-year-old victim claiming to be stranded.  When victim set her purse down to allow Fox to use her mobile phone, Fox grabbed the purse and fled, along with the child.

Fox was also charged in connection with an automobile burglary on July 24. Checks stolen in that incident were later forged and cashed.

Fox is being held without bond. She will be transported to the Madison County jail Tuesday, Collinsville police said.
