Traffic stop leads to weapon charge in Caseyville

A Caseyville police officer conducting a stop for a minor traffic violation Saturday found a loaded SKS rifle in the front passenger compartment of the suspect’s vehicle.

The uncased rifle was easily accessible to the suspect, Caseyville Police report. James D. Davis, 20, of the 1900 block of Baker Street, East St. Louis, was also found to have a suspended Illinois Driver’s license.

Davis was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a class 4 felony. Bond was set at $10,000 for Davis, who is currently in St. Clair County Jail.
