A Collinsville couple was indicted by a United States Grand Jury for the May 24, 2013 robbery of Scott Credit Union in O’Fallon, Ill.

court-hammerSteve M. Dodson, 46, and wife Denise K. Dodson, 43, were each charged with one count of robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, United States Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton said. The couple have now collected a combined eight charges related to burglary or theft since Dec. 2012.

The Dodsons were indicted on the bank robbery charges on April 23, but the announcement was delayed until they could be brought into the federal system, authorities said. Steve pleaded guilty on Oct. 31, 2013 to a felony charge of possessing burglary tools related to a Dec. 2, 2012 incident in O’Fallon. A felony charge of burglary in the incident was dismissed.

Denise pleaded guilty to a Madison County felony burglary charge and was convicted on Dec. 27, 2013. She also pleaded guilty in Madison County to felony theft and was convicted on April 19, 2013.

In addition to the federal charges, Steve has a pending court date after being charged with robbing the Collinsville American Legion on July 29, 2013 (see related).  Denise has a pending court date in St. Clair County for a felony burglary charge related to a Nov. 9, 2013 incident in the county.

The bank robbery indictment alleges that Steve robbed the Scott Credit Union in O’Fallon wearing a mask and telling two employees that he had a gun. After leaving the building with approximately $100,000, he got into a vehicle driven by Denise, who had been waiting for him, and fled the scene.

Both are being held without bond. Their trial date is set for Aug. 25.

If convicted, both face up to five years in prison on the conspiracy to commit bank robbery charges and 20 years on the bank robbery charges. They could also be fined up to $250,000 and sentenced to supervised release of up to five years.
