Senior forward Sammi Buettner came up big for CHS (4-0), knocking down four 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 17 points. Collinsville Head Coach Lori Billy said Buettner provided a needed second-half spark for the Lady Kahoks, who lead 23-20 at the half.

“She scored the first seven points of the second half. I don’t think they (Althoff) knew what hit them,” Billy said.

The Lady Kahoks turned the three-point halftime edge into a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter. Collinsville held a 15-10 lead after one quarter.

Buettner led another solid team effort for Collinsville. At least nine players scored in all four contests this season. Billy said her team is very deep this year.

“There is no difference with the kids we put on the floor when we go to the bench,” Billy said. “I keep telling the girls, it’s not who the starting five are, it’s how you contribute when you’re in the game.”

Senior guard Aubreeny Brady scored 13 points for Collinsville, including 7 of 11 from the free throw line. The Lady Kahoks shot 22 of 28 from the charity stripe against what Billy called a very physical Crusader (3-1) team.

Sophomore Kyliegh Vaught led the Crusaders with 16 points. Senior Madison Wilbacher added 11.

Billy said she was proud of her team for playing a very strong tournament and winning the final game against a quality team.

“The kids stepped up and proved that they could play at that level,” Billy said.

Collinsville next travels to Edwardsville for a 7 p.m. game Thursday.

Collinsville scorers: Brady – 13, Mahan – 4, Fischer – 7, Smith – 11, Buettner – 17, Liljegren – 2, Frerker – 2, Ashmann – 1, Brombolich – 3
