After losing by one point to Illinois’ 10th ranked team four days prior, Collinsville gave the fifth ranked team all it could handle Tuesday at Fletcher Gym, before succumbing to Edwardsville 49-39.

The Kahoks trailed Edwardsville by four points at halftime and 37-35 entering the fourth quarter, but managed only four points in the final quarter. Collinsville’s fourth quarter offense was slowed by the infamous Mike Waldo slowdown offense and critical turnovers.

Edwardsville (9-2 Southwestern Conference, 22-2) spread the floor and held the ball to keep the underdog Kahoks (3-8 SWC, 11-14) from making a late run. When Collinsville was able to get the ball, Armon Fletcher was a disruptive force on defense.

Collinsville’s four points in the final quarter come on late, barely-contested layups by Jacob Shaffer.

The Tigers scored eight of their 12 fourth-quarter points in the final two minutes, with six coming from the free throw line when Collinsville fouled trying to scramble back into the game. Edwardsville made six of seven fourth quarter free throws and 16-20 for the game.

Collinsville Head Coach Darin Lee said his team played well, but could not overcome key turnovers. “We just couldn’t find our post players at the key times we needed to against their zone,” Lee said. The Kahoks committed 13 turnovers.

Center Emondre Rickman scored seven points for Collinsville on eight shots. Rickman led the team with five rebounds and two blocks.

Edwardsville was led by Shawn Roundtree, who scored a game-high 18 points on 7-14 shooting. Trevor Clay and Armon Fletcher contributed 12 points each.

In a low scoring game throughout, Collinsville trailed 14-8 after one quarter and 26-22 at the half. The Kahoks were outrebounded 30-18.

Collinsville travels to Belleville West Friday for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

Prior to the varsity game, Collinsville’s junior varsity team defeated the Tiger’s junior varsity team 57-49. Collinsville junior varsity scorers were: Midgett-12, Buehne-12, Flora-9, Page-9, Gonet-8, Wellmaker-5, Lyons-2
