Collinsville brought the ball up court with 48 seconds remaining in a tie game with Mascoutah Saturday night. The Lady Kahoks, who had chiseled away at a 7-point fourth quarter deficit, were content to make it the last possession of regulation.

With 12 seconds left, Head Coach Lori Billy called a play for point guard Aubreeney Brady, but the Lady Indians clogged the lane, blocking her path to the basket. Brady kicked the ball out and the Lady Kahoks worked the ball around until Gabby Morgan flashed wide open.

Morgan calmly drained a 10-foot jump shot with three seconds remaining on the clock, sending the Lady Kahoks (9-11) to a 48-46 victory, their fifth straight win. Mascoutah dropped to 8-13 on the year.

The victory avenged a 48-39 loss to the Lady Indians in the third-place game of the season opening Nashville Tournament. Morgan scored 12 in that game, which was her season-high prior to Saturday’s 13-point effort.

Morgan’s jumper capped an 18-point fourth quarter in which six Lady Kahoks scored. Aubreeney Brady, Samantha Buettner and Morgan each scored four points in the fourth, to lead Collinsville.

In a back-and-forth game, the Lady Kahoks led 14-9 after one quarter, trailed by two at half and found themselves trailing 36-30 entering the fourth quarter. Billy said the victory was a total team effort. “The kids just gutted it out,” Billy said.

The Collinsville scorers were: Morgan-13, Buettner-10, Brady-10, Mahan-6, Smith-4, Brombolich-3, Scheiter-2.

The Lady Kahoks return to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vergil Fletcher Gym against Alton.

Prior to the varsity game, the junior varsity Lady Kahoks ran their record to 9-5 with a resounding 69-21 victory.

Junior varsity scorers were: Fischer-18, Rukavina-13, Giacoletto-12, Frerker-7, Akin-6, Liljegren-4, Kress-3, Mahan-2, Morgan-2, Phinney-2
