A Sean Davis layup nearly three minutes into the start of the third quarter was all the scoring the Kahoks would do in the period. Collinsville (2-6 Southwestern Conference, 8-12) shot 1-11 from the field and 0-2 from the free throw line as they were outscored 16-2 in the quarter. O’Fallon (5-3 SWC, 12-8) went on to beat the Kahoks 61-41.

The extended slump was the second of the game for Collinsville, who scored only two points in the first six plus minutes of the game. Trailing 14-2, the Kahoks put together a six-point possession with 1 minute 36 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Jacob Shaffer was in the act of shooting a 3-pointer when an O’Fallon defender was called for a foul off the ball. The basket counted and CHS got the ball out of bounds. After the Panthers were called for a Technical, Shaffer sank one of two free throws. Sean Davis hit a pair free throws to give the Kahoks six points in 11 seconds after they had managed only two in the previous 6 minutes 30 seconds.

The Kahoks trailed 16-10 after one quarter and outscored the Panthers 12-9 in the second to go into the half down five. After the disastrous third quarter, Collinsville was outscored 18-17 in the fourth quarter. O’Fallon head coach Rick Gibson pulled his starters with his team up 20 points and 1:30 remaining.

Collinsville shot 15-41 (36.3 percent) from the field, including 5-17 from 3-point territory. O’Fallon connected on 54.3 percent (25-46) of its field goal attempts, despite managing only 4-16 from beyond the arc. The Kahoks turned the ball over 17 times, compared to seven for O’Fallon.

Harrison Wethers, who started in place of the injured Emondre Rickman, scored 10 points and was the only Kahok to reach double figures. Matt Chambers’ six rebounds led Collinsville.

Prior to the varsity game, the junior varsity Kahoks downed the Panthers 65-53. The JV Kahoks are now 5-3 on the season.

The Collinsville JV scorers were: Page-15, Gonet-14, Midgett-12, Flora-12, Buehne-11, Lyons-1.
