An 80-year-old volunteer working the chain gang at the Collinsville High School football game Friday night has died from injuries sustained during the game.

Frank Antoine, of Belleville, was injured on a Collinsville touchdown run with 10:18 remaining in the game against Althoff Catholic High School at Lindenwood University-Belleville. It is not known if Antoine fell or was hit on the play. He lost consciousness and was taken off the field on a stretcher, covered in a blanket.

Antoine was first taken first to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville and then Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where he died, according to multiple media reports.
