The Collinsville High School baseball team (18-14 overall, 8-6 Southwestern Conference) fell 5-2 to Edwardsville Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers (27-6 overall, 11-3 SWC) started the scoring early as the second batter, Austin Werner, hit a double that drove in Collin Clayton from first base. Brock Weimer flew out to right for the first out of the inning, but Werner was able to tag up and score from third. The Tigers added one more run in the inning.

Collinsville Head Coach Pete Trapp said the Kahoks were sluggish early in the game.

Edwardsville scored twice more in the third inning, and the Tigers would hold a 5-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Collinsville defense generated some excitement by turning a triple play.

With runners on second and first, an Edwardsville batter hit a short pop fly to shortstop. The ball looked as though it would be just out of the reach of Grant Bauer, but he made the leaping grab.

The runners had taken off on contact, though, and Bauer was able to quickly turn the double play by tossing the ball to second. The runner on first was stuck halfway between second and first and was thrown out to complete the triple play.

In the seventh inning, the Kahoks put together some hits and eventually had the tying run on base. While they scored twice, the Kahoks lost after a groundout and a fly out.

Bauer was 1-for-3 with a single. Hoffman was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Mathes scored the other run.

Collinsville’s next game will be at Fletcher Field Thursday, May 22, when the Kahoks will host Carbondale at 4:30 p.m.
