Collinsville High School won big Saturday in the opening day of the 31st Collinsville Schnucks Holiday Classic.
Behind a strong all-around game by Anfirnee Wilkinson, the Kahoks (4-6) downed Hazelwood East (2-4) by 40 points, beating the St. Louis school 73-43. Wilkinson led all scorers with 17 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor. The senior guard added three assists and three rebounds without committing a turnover.
Fellow senior Brett Langley had his best game of the season, shooting a perfect 5-5 from the field, all from beyond the arc, for 15 points. He also chipped in four rebounds. Emondre Rickman added 12 points for home team.
CHS moves on to battle Southwestern Conference rival Granite City Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Fletcher Gym. The Warriors came out to play Saturday, knocking off fourth seed Decatur MacArthur 72-70. The winner will move on to the tournament semi-final game.
Collinsville scorers were: Wilkinson 17, Langley 15, Rickman 12, Davis 9, Maden 8, Wethers 5, Buehne 4, Gonet 3.
In other games, top seeded Althoff, second seed Lincoln and third seed McCluer North all advanced. Lincoln defeated Althoff in the 2013 Schnucks Classic championship game.
