The 2014-2015 season got off to a fine start for the Collinsville Lady Kahok basketball team, who easily beat Mt. Vernon Tuesday.
Three CHS (1-0) players netted double digits and 11 players scored in the 72-44 victory over the Lady Rams (0-1) in the first round of the Nashville tournament. Senior Aubreeny Brady led all scorers with 18 points.
The Lady Kahoks led 16-12 after one quarter, before increasing their lead to 30-21 at the half. Collinsville eased ahead by 16 after three quarters before throttling the Lady Rams 24-13 in the final stanza.
Junior forward Gabby Morgan scored 12 points in the opener and sophomore guard Kaitlyn Fischer dropped in 11 for the Lady Kahoks. Other scorers for Collinsville were: Mahan – 7, Smith – 8, Buettner – 3, Kellison -1 , Frerker – 2, Knutson – 3, Ashmann – 5, Schuessler – 2.
Collinsville will have plenty of help working off their Thanksgiving meal when they play two games Friday in the Nashville Tournament. First up is Wesclin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a contest against host Nashville at 8:30 p.m.
