Updated with cancellation information for the Wednesday game against Sumner
The Collinsville High School boys basketball team did not start the 2014-2015 season by shooting the lights out, but they garnered the most important statistic, the win.
The Kahoks connected on only 31 percent of their field goals Monday, including a meager 18.8 percent from beyond the arc, but still managed a 44-29 victory over Herrin in the Marion Thanksgiving Tournament. The Tigers shot 22.7 percent from the field against the Kahok defense.
Indiana State recruit Emondre Rickman dominated the game offensively and defensively. The 6-foot-8 senior scored 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting, grabbed 10 rebounds and rejected five shots.
Anfirnee Wilkinson, last season’s leading scorer, added eight points and Nic Gonet seven. Brett Langley, a 5-foot-11 guard, and center Sean Davis each grabbed five rebounds.
The Kahoks continue play in the Marion Thanksgiving Tournament Friday against Salem at Marion Junior High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
The Wednesday game against Sumner, originally scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fletcher Gym, has been canceled. Sumner cancelled all extra curricular activities following looting and rioting in nearby Ferguson, Mo., Monday evening. The violent demonstrations continue Tuesday.
