The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Alumni Association is partnering with the SIUE Office of Educational Outreach to present a travel opportunity to Budapest, Vienna and Prague during May 2015.
The trip begins on Friday, May 1 with a flight to Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Tour participants will spend three nights in Budapest before heading to Vienna, Austria for a two-night stay. The trip will conclude with three nights in Prague, Czech Republic. Return to the U.S. is scheduled for Sunday, May 10.
The spark for the current trip was the Alumni Association’s sold-out excursion to Cuba during March 2014.
“Our goal is to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences for our alumni, and the photographer’s tour of Cuba certainly achieved that,” said Steve Jankowski, executive director of the SIUE Alumni Association. “A variety of our travelers suggested a similar trip, so we have planned a visit to three of the most remarkable cities in the world.”
Highlights in Budapest include Heroes Square, the Hungarian Parliament Building, Buda Castle, the medieval Matthias Church and the chilling House of Terror museum.
In Vienna, guests will visit the Schonbrunn Palace, the Hofburg Palace and ride the Prater Ferris Wheel.
Prague is known as the “City of 100 Spires” for its majestic skyline. Visitors will tour Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral and have the freedom to discover Old Town and Wenceslas Square.
Alumni Association “premium members” receive $300 per person discounts for the trip, while “basic members” received a $100 discount per person. Cost to the general public is $4,100. The tour includes round-trip airfare and bus transfers, eight hotel nights, daily buffet breakfasts and five three-course dinners. A multilingual tour director will be available.
