On a soggy Collinsville homecoming day, Belleville West jumped out to a 30-point halftime lead and cruised to a 30-0 victory.
Star quarterback Sherand Boyd scored the Maroons (4-3, 3-2 Southwestern Conference) only two offensive touchdowns on runs of 7 and 2 yards. Boyd, with only 35 yards rushing, was West’s leading rusher.
In addition to an Austin Seibert field goal, TeAntez Anthony returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown and Jack Lanxon returned an interception 37 yards to close the scoring. Collinsville (1-6, 1-4 SWC) was shutout for the second time this season, and the second time in three games.
Collinsville Head Coach John Blaylock said his defense did not play poorly, allowing only 16 points to a team that has topped 30 points four times this season. Mark Garcia with 13 tackles and Trevore Sanders with 8 led the Kahok defense.
Offensively, the Kahoks had trouble moving the ball behind an offensive line of three sophomores and two juniors.
“Their defensive line really exposed our young line,” Blaylock said. “They were some big strong kids.”
After in improbable come-from-behind victory over Granite City on Sept. 19, the banged up Kahoks, with numerous injuries on offense and defense, have lost three straight. Collinsville has been outscored 109-9 in its past three games.
The Kahoks travel to Alton Friday, Oct. 17, for the penultimate game of the season. The Redbirds, at 4-3, are still fighting for a playoff spot. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. at Public School Stadium, 1513 State St, Alton, IL 62002.
