Senior Kahok soccer midfielder Grant Bauer led his team to a pair of much-needed wins to earn The Metro Independent Athlete of the Week award.
Collinsville started the week on the wrong side of two decisions to run its losing streak to five, before the senior captain asserted himself. Behind Bauer’s inspired play, and seven points, the Kahoks won consecutive 4-1 games.
The Kahoks snapped the streak Wednesday against Triad. In the second half, Bauer broke free for multiple chances on goal, but could not find the net. He did, however, contribute two assists. His last shot banged off the crossbar to a waiting Zach Stenger, who scored his first goal of the season.
One night later, Bauer had little trouble beating the goalkeeper, scoring two goals against Windsor, and contributing an assist. Head Coach Myles Hensler said he has recently put Bauer in a position to attack more than distribute. The senior has responded with three goals and three assists in the past four games.
