The Collinsville Memorial Library Center is inviting teens to learn more about up-and-coming technology through a series of hands-on workshops.
With events running through May 2015, teens can learn about robotics, 3D printing and modeling, building a computer from scratch, using professional-grade graphic design tools, and more.
The programs in this teen tech series are on the last Wednesday of each month (except December 2014) at 6 p.m. and run approximately two hours. Topics for the remainder of 2014 are:
- Oct. 29- Tinkercad & 3D Modeling: Turn a cardboard instrument into a 3D model (3D printing to be done after class). Presented by the St. Louis Science Center.
- Nov. 26- Software Programming: Program some software to use with the 3D-printed musical instruments. Presented by the St. Louis Science Center.
- Dec. 17- Squishy Circuits: Use Squishy Circuits to make instruments interact with software programs. Presented by the St. Louis Science Center.
These programs are free and open to 7th through 12th graders living in the Mississippi Valley Library District or attending a Unit 10 school and holding a Teen Initiative library card. Space is limited, so registration is required. Register or learn more by calling the library at 618-344-1112 or visiting the main desk.
Funding for this program series was awarded by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Secretary of State/ Illinois State Library under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).
