Collinsville, Ill. – The Kahok volleyball team made it three wins in three Southwestern Conference games when it swept Belleville East Thursday at Fletcher Gym.
Collinsville (5-6, 3-0 Southwestern Conference) trounced the Lancers (4-8, 1-3 SWC) in the first set. The Kahoks jumped out to a big lead on their way to a 25-9 win.
The second set was not as easy. After the Kahoks started strong again, Belleville East battled back, Collinsville Head Coach Tracy Plageman said. An Ellie McCarthy ace sealed a 26-24 sweep for the Kahoks.
“I was very proud of the team tonight,” Plageman said. “We have struggled with the second set, but tonight, although close, they stayed aggressive and were able to grind out a victory.”
Senior Alyssa Capizzi led CHS with eight aces, nine assists and four digs. McCarthy’s six kills were tops on the team, followed by four from Ayona Tharps, three from Gabby Hancher and two from Sydney Butterfield. Gabby Morgan and Butterfield topped the Kahoks with two blocks each.
The Kahoks will try to make it four straight wins when they visit Alton Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
