Playing behind a patchwork offensive line decimated by injury, Kahok quarterback Jordan Reichert weaved and shoved his way for a game-high 138 yards rushing against Belleville East Friday. Reichert was named the Metro Independent Athlete of the Week for his effort.

The junior quarterback also threw a touchdown in the losing effort. Collinsville adjusted its offense in an attempt to overcome Belleville East’s superior size and experience. Reichert guided the team through the transition and helped keep his injury-depleted team close for three quarters.

Despite completing less than 50 percent of his throws, Reichert hit several receivers in the hands, only to have the passes fall incomplete. Reichert leads the Kahoks with 252 rushing yards on the season.

The Lancers defeated the Kahoks 35-7. Collinsville is 0-3 on the season.

Athlete of the Week honorable mention

Volleyball player Gabby Hancher had 12 kills in two Kahok Southwestern Conference victories this week. The sophomore recorded a team-high six kills in each match.

Collinsville beat East St. Louis in three sets Wednesday and defeated Granite City in two games the following night. The Kahoks are now 4-6 on the season, but 2-0 in conference play.
