East St. Louis, Ill – The Collinsville High School volleyball team opened Southwestern Conference play Wednesday with a three-set victory over East St. Louis.
The Kahoks won the first set 25-22 before dropping the second 25-19. Collinsville started strong in the third set and never looked back, Head Coach Tracy Plagemann said. CHS topped the Flyerettes 25-23 in the deciding game.
Sophomore Gabby Hancher led the Kahoks with six kills. Senior setter Alyssa Capizzi dished out 13 assists and junior Maddie Schmidt added 12. Ayona Tharps, Emma Weil and Ellie McCarthy had five kills each. Sydney Butterfield added four kills.
The win put the Kahoks (3-6) back in the win column. After winning their opening two matches, Collinsville dropped six straight before Wednesday.
Collinsville hosts Granite City Thursday at Fletcher Gym for a 5:45 p.m. match.
