Sophomore Collinsville High School goalkeeper Brett Niedzwiecki saved 12 shots and authored two shutouts this week, leading the Kahok soccer team to a 2-0 start. His efforts earned him Metro Independent Athlete of the Week honors.
The Kahoks’ co-captain turned aside seven shots Thursday when Collinsville defeated Missouri powerhouse CBC 1-0 at Kahok Stadium. Niedzwiecki saved five shots against Highland Tuesday in the Kahoks’ season-opening 1-0 win at Highland.
Niedzwiecki started every game last year as a freshman, recording eight shutouts and a 1.95 goals against average.
The goalkeeper and his teammates will try to make it three wins in a row when they play O’Fallon Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at Kahok Stadium. CHS will be looking for revenge against O’Fallon, which has eliminated them from the Regionals the last three years and defeated Collinsville 3-0 in the regular season last year.
