Patient and caregiver registration for the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program starts Tuesday.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is now accepting applications for the medical cannabis registration identification card electronically and through the mail for qualifying patients and caregivers.
Applicants whose last names begin with letters A through L can submit an application from Sept. 2 – Oct. 31. Those with last names that begin with letters M through Z can submit an application Nov. 1 – Dec. 31. Beginning Jan. 1, 2015, applications for all qualifying patients and caregivers will be accepted year round.

The IDPH has 30 business days to review each application after it is received. The application must include the physician certification form and background information. Approval letters will be mailed within 15 business days of application review and registration cards will be mailed before dispensaries open, which is expected to occur in the spring of 2015.
Applicants who submit an incomplete application will be notified through the mail. They will have 21 days to resubmit their application. Patients who have been denied will be notified in writing with a reason for denial, the IDPH said.
