“The World’s First Linear Musical Festival” thinks enough of Collinsville that the city gets two concerts.
Sunday evening, Cow Bop will set up shop for a free concert under the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle, alongside the STL250 Cakeway to West cake and within spittin’ distance of the Catsup Bottle for sale sign. The band, recently inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame, will play from 4 – 6 p.m. in the acoustically interesting environment.
The cowboy/jazz western/swing ensemble is playing under the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle for the third time. Following the free concert at the Bethel-Eckert warehouse building, Cow Bop will mosey on down to Carisilos Mexican Restaurant, at 1978 Vandalia Street, to regale the crowd with a patio concert beginning at 7 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and refreshments to the Catsup Bottle concert. Those actions are not encouraged at Carisilos.
“The World’s First Linear Musical Festival” is also being billed as the “Rifftime on Route 66 Linear Music Festival,” the industry’s first mobile, interactive music festival. At least 43 bands have signed on to leave Chicago on July 25 and play their way to Los Angeles by Aug. 9. Nightclubs, bars, houses, parties, street corners and roadside icons are all on the agenda for the 2,400 mile traveling music festival.
The performers will document and share their experiences through Rifftime’s apps and social media outlets. A team of stringers will also live stream events all along the route.
Rifftime on Route 66 can be followed at http://route66.rifftime.com/.
The World’s Largest Catsup Bottle is not on Route 66, but is a widely recommended side trip for travelers on The Mother Road.
