Caseyville Police involved in another chase, two suspects arrested in East St. Louis

Caseyville Police were involved in their third police chase in less than a month on Tuesday. All three chases ended with the suspects captured in East St. Louis.

At about 11:54 a.m. Tuesday, an officer stopped a car near Illinois Route 157 and St. Clair Avenue. The officer saw the male driver switch seats with a female passenger, Caseyville Police said.

Bryan A. Hibbler, 20, of the 1300 block of North 44th Street, East St. Louis does not have a valid driver’s license. When the officer attempted to arrest him, police allege that Joy R. Hawthorne, 26, of the 1400 block of Gay Avenue, East St. Louis, fled the scene with Hibbler in the car.

After a car chase on St. Clair Avenue, the officer stopped the pursuit for safety reasons, Caseyville Police said. The pair were later located in the 1400 block of Gay Avenue, East St. Louis. Hibbler ran, but was taken into custody without incident. Hawthorne again fled the scene in a vehicle, police said, but later surrendered at Caseyville Police headquarters.

Hawthorne was charged with aggravated fleeing a police officer, a Class 4 felony. Hibbler was charged with misdemeanor resisting a police officer, driving without a valid driver’s license and issued tickets for traffic violations

Bond for Hawthorne was set at $25,000 and at $1,500 for Hibler. Both are being held in the St. Clair County Jail.
