Sidney Bost’s one-hit pitching performance Thursday propelled the host Collinsville High School softball team past Southwestern Conference foe Granite City 11-1.
Bost also chipped in from the plate, with two hits, a sacrifice, two RBI and a run scored. Bost scored in the second as part of a two-run inning that helped the Kahoks (16-16, 4-10 SWC) build an early 3-1 lead over the Warriors (1-25, 0-11 SWC).
The Kahoks added to the 3-1 lead in the bottom of third when Samantha Buettner singled to drive in Kassidy Smith. A Bost groundout plated Sarah Scrum before Paige Giacoletto blooped a single to score Buettner. Carlee Mahan capped off the four-run inning with a single that scored Giacoletto, her second run scored of the day.
Collinsville tacked on another run in the fifth to make it 8-1 in favor of the home team. An Audrey Allard single scored Giacoletto. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth when the Kahoks scored another three runs.
An Emily Lautz groundball to shortstop started the scoring in the final frame. The shortstop could not handle the bouncing ball and Kassidy Smith scored to make the score 9-1. Bost helped her own cause when she singled home Lautz two batters later.
Kadie Ringering sent the fans home one inning early when her single scored Samantha Buettner. Collinsville Head Coach Cindy Kolda said Bost pitched well.
“She controlled her pitches, she hit the strike zone,” Kolda said.
Bost finished the day with one hit allowed, two walks and two hit batters.
The team hit the ball hard,” Kolda said.
“They made pretty good contact, a lot of these outs where ground outs,” Kolda said.
Smith nearly set the career run home record when she hit a bomb down the third base line in the third inning that went about two feet foul.
Allard had four hits on the day for Collinsville and Giacoletto scored three runs as the Kahoks snapped a four-game losing streak.
The Kahoks wrap up their regular season Friday with a doubleheader at home against Highland. Game time is 4:30 p.m. Regionals start at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when Collinsville travels to Belleville East to play the host school.
