Kayla Marshall broke two school records Friday, and earned a spot in the State Finals in the triple jump and the long jump, to earn Metro Independent Athlete of the week honors.
Marshall, who signed to continue her track career at Central Michigan University, smashed the Collinsville High School long jump record by more than a foot. Marshall’s 18 feet 3.25 inches topped Katie Meyer’s 17-3 from 1997.
At the Rock Island Sectional Friday, Marshall broke her won Kahok record in the triple jump. Her 38-10.25 beat her old mark of 38-8.
Both jumps qualified her for the State Final at Eastern Illinois University Thursday through Saturday.
The future Chippewa at Central Michigan also earned the Academic Excellence Award and President’s Tuition award from her future university.
