A man in Caseyville was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when his car was rear-ended by a car chasing him. The victim’s car was rammed several times, finally causing a rollover crash.
The incident happened at about 1:47 a.m. April 20, Caseyville Police said. Silvestre Huerta Barrios, age 29, of the 6000 block of Collinsville Road, Fairmont City is the alleged driver of the car that was chasing the victim near the 8600 block of New Bunkum Road, in Caseyville.
Barrios’ car stuck a utility pole during the incident. Two parked vehicles were also damaged.
After the crash, Barrios and an unspecified number of associates fled the scene, but were later arrested. The victim was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s charged Barrios with criminal damage to property, a felony.
Barrios is being held on $75,000 bond in the St. Clair County jail. No charges have yet been filed against his associates.
