The Collinsville High School softball team averaged 12 runs in its first six games, but has scored only eight in the past three. The Kahoks tallied only a single run in a 6-1 loss to Alton Thursday.
Head Coach Cindy Kolda summed it up simply, “our bats are ice cold.”
The Kahoks (6-3, 0-2 Southwestern Conference) managed five hits Thursday, stranded eight base runners and scored their only run when a batter was hit by a pitch. Alex Holten led the team with two hits and scored the only run, crossing the plate when Paige Giacoletto was plunked with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second inning.
Collinsville sent seven hitters to the plate in the bottom of the second, but stranded the bases loaded. Kahok runners reached scoring position in the third, fourth and sixth innings, but the home team came up short in each inning.
Alton (5-4, 2-1 SWC) scored three runs in the first inning to get all of the runs they would need. The Redbirds added two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth against Sidney Bost, who took the loss.
Bost pitched all seven innings, allowing six runs (three earned), striking out nine and walking three. It was the second consecutive complete game loss for Bost.
Collinsville travels to Breese for a 4:30 p.m. game Friday at Breese Central.
