Sidney Bost pitched a nine-inning complete game for a win Friday afternoon at the Collinsville Jaycees Sports Complex, and chipped in the game-winning hit for good measure.
The Kahoks sophomore outdueled freshman Megan Brown, one of the best pitchers in the area, Collinsville Head Coach Cindy Kolda said.
“You’re going to be hearing a lot about here in the next few years,” Kolda said of Brown, who has registered the victory in all seven Dupo wins this year.
Collinsville (5-1) had runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but could not push a run across. The Tigers (7-2) scored single runs in the first, third and fifth inning, to take a 3-0 lead over the Kahoks heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Becky Gibbs, Kassidy Smith and Audrey Allard scored in a three-run bottom of the fifth to knot the game. Dupo answered right back with two runs in the top of the sixth.
The Kahoks responded with two, two-out runs in the bottom of their sixth. Gibbs reached on an error and scored when Smith tripled. Smith scored on a hit by Alex Holten to tie the game at five.
As the game entered extra innings, a base runner was placed on second base to begin each half inning. This rule, called the International Tiebreakers rule, must be agreed to by the coaches before the game starts. It is not allowed in conference play, Kolda said.
Each team scored a run in the eighth, to push the game another frame. Bost set the side down in order for the third time in the game in the top of the ninth, setting the stage for her heroics with the bat.
Following a sacrifice bunt by Paige Giacoletto, Bost drove home Emily Lautz, the ITB runner with the winning run.
Collinsville returns to action Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. Rock Falls will square off against Collinsville at 12 p.m. Waterloo battles the host Kahoks at 2 p.m.
Following consecutive days of heavy rain, the field was made playable through the efforts of Charlie Johnson of the Collinsville Area Recreation District and generous amounts of Diamond Dry.
“He is great, he deserves to be employee of the year for them every year,” Kolda said.
