Collinsville is reaching out to all its neighbors and friends for support of The Empty Bowl, their large fundraiser to help combat local hunger.
This year’s Empty Bowl, to be held Ash Wednesday, March 5 (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.), at the Collinsville Knights of Columbus Hall, will be bigger and better than ever.
For a $10 donation, attendees can enjoy a simple soup meal symbolizing the plight of the hungry. More than twenty meat or meatless soups have been donated by areas restaurants and licensed vendors. Carry-outs are also available.
The Gateway Grizzlies mascots will be there to meet the crowd from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. On-stage entertainment will include talented musicians and vocalists from the area.
New this year is a silent auction. Patrons will have an opportunity to bid on several uniquely-designed and handmade bowls. Those interested in a sneak preview can see some of the bowls now through March 2nd at the Collinsville Memorial Library, 408 West Main St.
The first 500 people who attend March 5 will be given a special memento as a reminder that many face empty bowls every day.
Empty Bowl tickets may be purchased at the event or by calling (618) 910-1646. For those who cannot attend, checks, payable to the Collinsville Woman’s Club, may be sent to PO Box 368, Collinsville, IL., 62234. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.
Sponsored by the Collinsville Woman’s Club, with strong support from Collinsville and neighboring communities, last year the event raised $6,700 for Collinsville’s Helping Hands Food Pantry. This year, the club is partnering with the Junior Service Club of Collinsville.
The Collinsville Knights of Columbus Hall is located at One Columbus Plaza on Illinois Route 157.
