Collinsville woman one of three suspected heroin overdose deaths in six hours

The Madison County Coroner’s office is investigating three suspected heroin overdose deaths that occurred in the Metro East within six hours of each other.

ambulanceKatie L. Keavy, 29, of the 100 block of Skyline View Drive in Collinsville was discovered in her home by her father on Feb. 13 at 9:21 p.m. Keavy was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m.

Intravenous drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. The autopsy revealed no indication of trauma or violence. Further toxicology tests will be performed, the coroner’s office said.

Collinsville Police and the Madison County Coroner’s are investigating the case. Funeral arrangements are pending at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home of Edwardsville.

About three hours later, Dearold W. Oseland, 38, of the 200 block of Elm Street in Roxana, was found in his home by his girlfriend. Oseland, who was found with drug paraphernalia present, was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m.

The autopsy was inconclusive and toxicology results are pending. Roxana Police and the Coroner’s are investigating the case. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

The Coronor’s office was called to the 2500 block of Grand Avenue in Granite city at 1:59 a.m. to investigate the death of Paul J. Simpson, 40. Simpson was pronounced dead in his home at 2:49 a.m.

Simpson had a reported history of drug abuse. Evidence of drug usage was found at the scene. The autopsy failed to reveal a definitive cause of death. Toxicology tests will be performed.

Granite City Police and the Coroner’s are investigating the case. Funeral arrangements are pending.
