There is a 100 percent chance of snowfall in the greater Collinsville area Tuesday, according to the National Weather service. The forecast of freezing rain has been pushed to after midnight Tuesday in the Unit 10 area.
A winter weather advisory is active from 9 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday for rapid accumulations of snow.
The current forecast, as of 3:42 a.m Tuesday, calls for 3-7 inches of total accumulation, with snow possibly sneaking into the area after 10 a.m. and increasing in intensity after noon. The heaviest snowfall is to be between noon and 8 p.m., with total accumulations predicted at 2-4 inches during the day and another 1-3 in the evening hours.
The exact timing of the heaviest accumulation may change throughout the day. Sleet and freezing rain have been making appearances and disappearances from the forecast. Updates will be posted on The Metro Independent as conditions warrant.
Winds will sweep across the horseradish fields at 9-13 mph Tuesday. Temperatures should peak in the upper 20, with wind chills in the teens.
