Curtain’s Up Theater Company will conduct auditions for a stage version of Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka.” The play will run May 1-4, 2014 at SIU Edwardsville’s Dunham Hall Theater.
Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, which features the songs from the classic family film Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka,” follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory–or suffer the consequences.
The auditions are scheduled from 10-3 p.m. Saturday, February 15, in Room 2012 of SIUE’s Katherine Dunham Hall. No appointment is necessary. Anyone interested in auditioning needs to prepare a 1-2 minute monologue and 16-32 measures of a song from a musical. Our director is looking for anyone age 8 and up to audition. Any children (under 18) who are auditioning, parents need to come in and meet with the director. Performances will be May 1-4 at SIU-E Dunham Hall Theater. Any questions, please contact director Marla Weis by e-mail: marlaweis@yahoo.com.
