With temperatures nearly reaching 60 degrees in Collinsville Sunday, the line to get into Danny’s Express Car Wash was in the double digits, stretching down Illinois Route 157, causing traffic to slow.
There was a sense of urgency for people to get their vehicles clean, with temperatures predicted to drop by more than 30 degrees before midnight and a daytime high for Monday predicted to barely struggle out of the single digits.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, with sustained overnight winds projected above 30 mph, and gusts over 40 mph. A slight chance of snow flurries is predicted, with no accumulation expected.
Bus stop weather
Conditions for Monday morning are predicted to be similar to Thursday, when Collinsville Unit 10 cancelled school out of concern for children’s safety. Winds of 25-35 mph, a wind chill factor of -11 and a temperature of 9 will greet children at the bus stop Monday morning. After school conditions are projected to be the similar, with a slightly diminished wind. An afternoon high of 11 degrees and winds of 17-25 mph will combine for a wind chill of -9.
