Collinsville Unit 10 cancelled school for Thursday, citing cold temperatures, predicted windchill and concern for student safety.
An overnight low of -1 is predicted for Wednesday night, followed by a high of 10 Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory, with wind chills possibly reaching -20. Winds will be out of the northwest at 15-20 mph, gusting up to 30 mph.
The eight day this school year that school has been cancelled in the district, and the second day this week.
-Why is there school if the temperature is so low. My understanding was if the temperature was 16 or below, or feels lower do to wind chill there is school today Jan 27th. I know many days have been cancelled but if that is the reason you are keeping it open then I do not believe that is a very professional decision. And if parents like me who have a child with asthma, and cold and hot make it worse and I keep her home since I believe it should be closed due to protocol. I believe this should not count against her at all. Thank you, Suzanne Olsson,
