Caseyville is now offering monthly large item collection for residents.
The monthly service replaces the annual spring cleaning pick-up. Mayor Len Black initiated the change to help beautify the community, and to relieve the annual burden on the Public Works Department.
“The annual clean-up took about three days and two trucks,” Black said. “I hope we can get this taken care of with a two guys in a couple of hours each month.”
Asking residents to store large items throughout the year is not practical. “You don’t save it up all year. If you have a television or a refrigerator, we can pick it up for you,” Black said. “My whole objective is to clean up this town, it got kind of run down.”
Black was elected in April, 2013. George Chance was Caseyville’s mayor for 27 years prior to Black.
Large item collection will be held on the first working Monday of each month. If the Monday is a holiday, the items will be collected the following day.
The Public Works Department will provide the service, which is only for residents within the Caseyville Village boundaries and only when requested. Residents can call 344-1234, extension 224, to be added to the collection list.
Examples of acceptable large items are refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, mattresses and couches. EPA hazardous items, such as paint, electronics and tires, will not be accepted, Brian Rader, director of public works said.
