The district again cited concern for student safety when making the decision. Superintendent Bob Green said the lack of clear sidewalks were a major concern when making the decision to call of school Thursday.

”We have a lot of small children that walk to their bus stop or to school, it isn’t safe for them to walk in the street,” Green said. “We are going to error on the side of the safety of the kids.”

Up to a half inch of snow fell on the area overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning, with additional wintry precipitation possible before midnight. Friday’s forecast calls for a high of 47, with occasional rain. Weekend highs are projected to be in the mid to upper 40s.

Schools have been closed to students since winter break began Dec. 20. The last day of school is now scheduled for May 27, the day after Memorial Day.
