The most recent update from the National Weather Service has snowfall beginning at 8 p.m. rather than 9 p.m. This is two hours earlier than the 10 p.m. estimate provided with the original winter weather advisory.
The last time the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the St. Louis region, Collinsville Unit 10 schools were closed and athletic events cancelled, but Collinsville and nearby communities received little more than a glorified dusting of snow.
The southern communities in the Metro East were not as lucky.
One week later, the weather service has issued another winter weather advisory that includes Collinsville, Maryville and Caseyville. The advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday.
The local forecast calls for occasional rain this afternoon and evening, mostly between 4-7 p.m. It was raining at 12:52 p.m. in Collinsville.
The precipitation is expected to be all snow after 7 p.m., with new snow accumulation of 3-5 inches possible. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent, the weather service indicated.
