The Collinsville Township Trustees will continue their discussion about raising the property tax levy when they meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township building at 305 E. Main St.
The Trustees approved a levy increase of 4 percent for roads and bridges at a meeting on Nov. 26, but were at a stalemate on a proposal to leave the levy on the Town Fund. The road and bridge levy passed 3-1, with Trustee Chris Guy as the lone dissenting vote. Trustee Michael Foley proposed no increased levy for the Town fund. Guy voted with Foley, but Trustee Dennis Hill and Township Supervisor Terry Allan voted against the proposal.
Trustee James Stack was absent from the meeting, setting up a showdown tonight on the Town fund levy. Allan continuously urged the trustees to vote for an increased levy in the fund during the Nov. 26 meeting.
A tax levy increase will provide Collinsville Township with more money, but it may not be directly responsible for raising property taxes. If the value of property in the township increases, it is possible that the township could receive the proposed increase in tax money without being directly responsible for increased real estate taxes.
