In the Midwest, weather can seem to change by the minute. Forecasts certainly do.
The most recent National Weather Service forecast for Collinsville, updated at 12:53 p.m. Central Time, has added sleet back into the Collinsville forecast for this afternoon and reduced the expected daytime snow accumulation to less than half an inch. The accumulation is a sleet/snow mixture.
The forecast now calls for snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch tonight and new snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches Friday. Earlier projects were for 1 to 3 inches of snow Friday.
Collinsville road crews have pre-treated hills and are on standby to apply salt and clear the roads when the snow arrives. The main roads will be treated and cleared first, followed by the secondary streets.
The threat of snow has caused tonight’s Collinsville High School athletic events to be postponed. The girls basketball game against Edwardsville will, instead, be played at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. No make-up date has been announced for the wrestling meet, also against Edwardsville.
