Collinsville’s Waste Water Department will soon have a brand new sewer cleaning truck.
The City Council voted Tuesday to spend $284,582 to purchase the new truck, which can be used to clean sewer blocks, catch basins and storm sewers. It will replace a 22-year-old sewer cleaning truck, currently used by street department, which will be traded-in for the new vehicle.
Delivery of the Vactor Model 2110+ vehicle is expected to take about six months, Director of Water/Wastewater Dennis Kress said. The truck will be used by the Waste Water Department and the 13-year-old truck they use will be assigned to the street department.
The new vehicle will also be used for hydro-excavating, a process of digging into the ground by spraying water and vacuuming the water. There is a growing need for this technology because of fiber optics and other utilities in the ground. The truck can be used in place of backhoes and excavators, Kress said.
The City Council also voted to replace six servers used by the city. The old servers were bought in 2008 and will soon be out of warranty and need to be replaced, the city’s IT Coordinator Patrick Fischer said.
An $18,647 annual lease agreement with Dell will be signed. The servers are expected to be online by late November or early December. A three-year warranty comes with the servers, with the option to extend it. . “Dell has always been very aggressive about renewing warranties at very low prices,” Fischer said.
The existing servers will be used to enhance the city’s disaster recovery capabilities.
