St. John Vianney High School, of Kirkwood, controlled the game from the opening kick Tuesday en route to a convincing 6-0 win. Five different players scored for the Griffins (12-2-2).

Sophomore forward Brandon Love scored the first Vianney goal at the 6 minute 26 second mark. Love was standing by himself in front of the net and chipped a cross past freshman goalkeeper Brett Niedzwiecki.

Vianney had a number of open chances in the first half, a result of Kahoks defenders losing track of their man, Kahoks Head Coach Myles Hensler said. “Tonight we did a little more ball watching than we’ve been doing in the last couple of games,” Hensler said.

Following several near misses, senior forward Hayden Sparrow knocked home the second goal for the Griffins. Fellow senior forward Eric Biras followed less than three minutes later with the first of two goals for him in the contest. Junior defender Nick Auck capped the first half scoring when he bent one in on a wide-open chance from 15 yards.

The Kahoks (1-3 Southwestern Conference, 7-10-1 overall) had notched 11 goals while winning three of their previous four matches, but never threatened the net against a team Hensler said was probably the best CHS has played this season. “Our players played a little scared just because they were playing against Vianney,” Hensler said.

Biras and junior midfielder Joey Delbert tacked on second half goals.

Despite the 6-0 line, Hensler said the team put forth a good effort. Hensler singled out junior midfielder Grant Bauer for his play.

“He battled at midfield with one of their best players, number10 (senior midfielder Adam Michel) but, we’ve got to get support around him and make sure he’s able to connect passes,” Hensler said.

Bauer and the Kahoks travel to Imperial, Mo. to battle Windsor in a 6 p.m. match Thursday.
