Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s International Student Services is hosting an immigration workshop from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Morris University Center’s Willow Room.
The workshop is free for students, staff, faculty members and the surrounding community.
The intent will be to offer useful information regarding U.S. immigration law. Jennifer Ibanez Whitlock and Jack Hacking of Hacking Law Practice will present during the event.
Whitlock has practiced immigration law for five years and helps families and businesses with immigration problems. She also helps individuals obtain work and family based visas. Hacking was named the Best Lawyer in St. Louis by the Riverfront Times in 2013.
Workshop topics will include:
- Immigration law
- Employment options
- Political asylum procedures
- Legal rights of F-1 and J-1 students
The duo will take questions and provide resources to SIUE’s international students and other members of the community. International Student and Scholar Services in the Center for International Programs is responsible for international student immigration reporting at SIUE.
In addition to handling immigration records and advisement, International Student and Scholar Services provides cultural adjustment counseling, orientation to life on campus and in the U.S. and facilitates employment authorization.
