The Collinsville City Council voted unanimously Monday to extend by one year the employment contracts of the fire and police chiefs and to grant each an additional week of vacation each year.

The additional week of vacation was awarded to make the contracts market competitive, City Manager Scott Williams said. Each chief will receive four weeks of vacation annually.

Chief of Police Eric Van Hook and Fire Chief Mark Emert deserve the amended contracts because each has demonstrated a commitment to the city and an ability to cut costs in his department, Williams said.

Van Hook was hired by the city on Aug. 27, 2012 at a beginning salary of $95,000 per year. His contract now terminates on Sept. 3, 2016.

Emert’s contract began on Jan. 23, 2012 at an annual base salary of $92,400. His contract will terminate on Jan. 23, 2016
